About the CORPS project
CORPS is an EU-funded project under Framework Programme Six, run from the period of January 2007-December 2009.
Its aim has been to, at an unclassified level, establish a network of professionals involved in biological homeland security in Europe and to analyse their security and threat perceptions and research and development (R&D) priorities as a means of strengthening cross-sector communication and knowledge sharing.
Understanding differences in security and threat perceptions across agencies and institutions is essential in establishing a more nuanced understanding of the threat from biological weapons, and ultimately an enhanced European-wide security and preparedness capability: how the threat from biological weapons is perceived informs how R&D priorities are set and security in turn conceived.
Through the wide distribution of two questionnaires, the CORPS project has collected information on the perceptions and priorities of experts from the health, police, intelligence, defence, civil protection, government and research sectors across Europe.
The results have been analysed thoroughly in two project reports and the recommendations are put forward in an executive summary.
